Visa Updates
The government has just announced some updates that are likely to come into effect from 1st July 2012.
i) Visa classes simplified from 6 to 3 categories only: the current 6 visa subclasses will be replaced as follows:
Subclass 189 (skilled independent) - replacing 885/175
Subclass 190 (skilled nominated) - replacing 886-176
Subclass 489 (skilled regional) - replacing 487-475
The subclass 485 (skilled graduate) and the subclass 476 (skilled recognised graduate) remain unchanged
ii) Skill Select and EOI
To apply for the 3 new subclasses, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and if successful, you will be invited to submit an application.
To be eligible for EOI, you will need to at least:
- under 50 years old
- Have competent English (IELTS all bands above 6 or certain passport holder)
- Skill Assessment Outcome Letter
To be invited after the EOI, the government will select candidates with the highest points during that period. Please note that:
- Points are calculated at the time the government makes the invitation. This means your qualifications (e.g., IELTS) must be valid at that time. You also have the opportunity to update (or improve) your points after submitting your EOI but before the invitations are made.
iii) Secondary applicants may be added after the application but before the time of visa decision.
